We seen a 50 year old patient at our Urgent Care Walk in Clinic with puncture wound of the hands and elbow after cutting the palms. The patient had the redness around the puncture wound and seems to be infected. Dr. Usha Jain examined the patient and ordered the tetanus and diphtheria injection and also given the course of antibiotics. The patient didn’t have any tetanus for last 10 years.
Tetanus and diphtheria vaccination is required when the patient gets puncture wound specially by rusty nails. Tetanus is a deadly disease and tetanus bacteria can get through inside the puncture wound. Tetanus booster should be updated every 10 years to prevent tetanus.
