We have seen a 35 year old patient in our Walk-in Medical Clinic in Dr. Phillips area with complaints of sore throat and swollen tonsils. The patient was seen by another doctor and was given amoxil but the patient got worse and had fever. Dr. Jain examined the patient and ordered strep test which was positive. The patient was given the IV antibiotics and ceftin was given to take at home. The patient was able to swallow and felt much better next day.
Tonsillitis secondary to strep infection needs to be treated aggressively because swollen tonsil can be very painful and patient can get dehydrated. The patient can get complications of the heart and kidney if left untreated.
