Urgent Care of Diabetes and Ketosis

We saw a patient who came to our Urgent Care Medical Center for high sugar which was found in preoperative blood work. The patient had surgery scheduled 3 days later. The patient could not have surgery because his sugar was too high. His doctor was on vacation. The patient was seen at our Walk in Medical Center by Dr. Usha Jain. The patient had blood drawn and was treated with an insulin shot. The patient was also given normal saline IV drip to hydrate and reduce the ketones.

The patient was also given oral medicine to reduce sugar. The patient responded well and was able to have his surgery performed in a timely fashion.
