Dr. Usha Jain is our expert doctor in diagnosing gout. We have seen a 55 year old patient with the pain in the right great toe. The patient says he had stubbed the toe night before and started to hurt. The patient thought that he had fracture and wanted to have an x ray. Dr. Usha Jain examined the patient and felt that he possibly had the gout and not the fracture. The patient had blood drawn and x-ray was done. X-ray was normal. The patient was treated with anti-inflammatory medicine. The patient responded well to the medicine. The results of blood tests showed high uric acid and was diagnosed with the gout.
The gout attack can be triggered by trauma and in this case gout attack is flared up from trauma to the toe.
